Meet the Ohio Board
President: Kristin Goessl
Kristin’s daughter, Olivia, was born in 2008 with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Sadly, Olivia passed away at only 6 weeks of age. Kristin was inspired to fight for those living with congenital heart defects, and for families who had lost their own loved ones. She participated in the Congenital Heart Walk in 2012, and was on the planning committee for the 2013 walk. In 2013, Kristin was invited to join the board for the Children’s Heart Foundation Ohio, and was elected Vice President of the Ohio chapter in 2014. Kristin is a 2004 graduate of The Ohio State University and received her BS in Allied Health specializing in Respiratory Therapy. She is currently working for American Health Network as an asthma and COPD clinic coordinator. Kristin and her husband, Nick, have a happy and healthy 4 year old boy Aidan.
Vice President and Past President: Bobbie Sue Jacobs
Bobbie was born with Transposition of the Great Arteries requiring open heart surgery. At the age of 7, she received her first pacemaker. She has also suffered from congestive heart failure and arrhythmia’s several times, requiring a cardio version and ablation. For the most part, she leads a fairly normal life. She married her husband, Chris, in 2009 and although none are biological to her, they have 5 children. She is the bookkeeper for her family’s farm and has been a 4H adviser for several years. She has participated in the heart walk since the first year. She has also helped to organize a team and fundraiser to benefit the walk.
Treasurer: Drew Turner
Drew Turner, a native of St. Clairsville, Ohio and current resident of Gahanna recently joined the CHF. He became interested in the Foundation after seeing the impact of congenital heart defects on family and friends, which led to participation in the first two Congenital Heart Walks in Columbus. In his spare time, Drew enjoys running, skiing, television and concerts.
Secretary: Amanda Grubb
Amanda’s son, Cameron, was born in 2010 and was diagnosed with a Coarctation of the Aorta and a bicuspid aortic valve at two weeks old after suffering congestive heart failure. He had corrective surgery and is now a happy, healthy little boy. Amanda’s been involved with the Children’s Heart Foundation Ohio Chapter since 2012. She has an MBA from Ohio Dominican University and works for the Ohio Auditor of State’s Office.
Legal Advisor: Scott S.C. Thomas
Scott is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and The Ohio State Moritz College of Law. After practicing corporate tax law and employee benefits at Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease in Columbus, Scott is now general counsel and CFO for Buckeye Automotive. Additionally, Scott has served on St. Mary’s Parish Council and Notre Dame’s Alumni mentoring programs and is a member of Fisher Catholic’s Vision Team.
Advisory Board Member: Dr. Christopher Learn
Christopher Learn, M.D. is a board certified physician in general pediatrics and internal medicine. He is currently a fellow in both pediatric cardiology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and adult cardiology at the Ohio State University Medical Center. He has an academic interest in the care of adolescents and adults with congenital heart disease. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, he is a graduate of the Boston University School of Medicine and completed an internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency at Indiana University.
Board Member: Jeannine Kraft
Jeannine’s son, Liam, was born with a Ventricular Septal Defect which required open heart surgical repair when he was three months old. Liam is now a healthy happy toddler. Jeannine began working with the Ohio Chapter of the Children’s Heart Foundation in 2010 and became a member of the board in January 2011. Jeannine is an Assistant Professor and Chair of the History of Art and Design Department at Columbus College of Art & Design.
Board Member: Tamara Thomas
Tammy has a B.S. from Miami University and a MBA from Capital University. Tammy and Scott’s son, Adam, was born in 1995 with severe Pulmonary Stenosis and a large VSD, requiring 2 interventional caths and 2 open heart surgeries. Besides parenting, Tammy is on the Columbus YWCA Academy of Women of Achievement and currently works in the family business at Buckeye Honda, building on a past career in finance and service on the Canal Winchester School Board, and the Fisher Catholic School Board. Tammy also developed, implemented and led the Enrichment Program at St. Mary school for four years.
Board Member: Mike Markham, RN, BSN,CCRN
Mike is a registered nurse at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. He obtained his Bachelors of Science degree from Chamberlain College of Nursing. Currently, he is a nurse coordinator working in the Heart Transplant Program at Children’s. He has been employed with Nationwide Children’s for over 16 years. His focus has been with critically ill newborn, pediatric, and adult complex congenital heart disease patients, with a specialty in heart failure, and cardiac transplant. He has worked for over 8 years in the Pediatric & Cardiothoracic ICU, and over 3 years with the transplant program. He is an active member of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), the National Association of Transplant Professionals (NATCO), the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplant (ISHLT), and the Society of Pediatric Nurses (SPN).
